The South Korean star, championed by The Wall Street Journal as a “master” of the piano, plays Mozart, Prokofiev, and Widmann.
Whenever Seong-Jin Cho sets his hands on the piano, he displays “an impressive variety of tonal colors and remarkable technique, dispatched with jaw-dropping panache” (The Wall Street Journal). He returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall with the hard-hitting solo piano suite from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet as well as the last and longest of the composer’s “War Sonatas.” Between the Russian masterworks, Cho weaves dark drama, defiance, and unexpected harmonic twists into his recital with Mozart’s Fantasia and opens the night with Widmann’s Sonatina facile—a light and charming homage to Mozart’s deceptively “easy” K. 545.
