 In 1943 Copenhagen, young Annemarie risks everything to hide her Jewish best friend from Nazis — and joins a daring rescue mission that tests her courage.
It’s 1943, and life in Copenhagen is shadowed by Nazi soldiers, food shortages, and fear. When young Annemarie Johansen and her sister, Kirstie, learn that the Jewish people of Denmark are being “relocated” to concentration camps, their best friend Ellen Rosen comes to stay — pretending to be one of the family. But when soldiers come knocking in the night, Annemarie discovers that hiding Ellen is only the beginning.
What follows is a race against time, as Danish freedom fighters of all ages risk everything to rescue friends and strangers. Annemarie will face soldiers, fierce dogs, and her own deepest fears as she is called upon to take on a dangerous mission — one that will test her courage, her faith, and even her fledgling acting skills.
This theatrical adaptation of the award-winning novel features students participating in SLO REP’s ACT education program.
