Benjamin Britten’s comic opera follows shy, virtuous Albert Herring as he rebels against his prudish upbringing after being crowned May King of his small English town. To celebrate, Albert goes on a wild pub crawl, challenging societal norms (and his mother's control). “Albert Herring” delivers themes of innocence, tradition, and rebellion with a sparkling score and sharp social commentary.
