Julia Ong (UCSB Student Carillonist) and Wesley Arai (UCSB University Carillonist) will present a recital from the carillon in UCSB’s Storke Tower on Sunday, April 19th at 2:00pm. Selections will include solo works and duets, covering a wide range of original works for carillon and arrangements of well-known classical and popular tunes.
Please join us for recitals from UCSB’s Storke Tower Carillon given by UC Santa Barbara University Carillonist Wesley Arai and students from Arai’s carillon studio. UCSB’s Storke Tower and its carillon were a gift from Thomas Storke, former publisher of the Santa Barbara News-Press. The instrument consists of 61 bells cast by Petit & Fritsen of the Netherlands, with the bells weighing anywhere from 18 pounds to 2.5 tons, and spanning five octaves. Listeners are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on the grass outside the tower during the recital.
